A Solar Powered Drone That Can Fly For 5 Years Nonstop

This is one of the coolest things that I have read about lately, a drone that can fly for 5 years without landing! Usually when I hear about drones, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but this is a revolutionary idea that can change a lot about they way we do things. It makes sense that Facebook would have one. The company that created this awesome technology, Titan Aeropace has dubbed the creation the worlds first solar powered atmospheric satellite.

This is awesome, and undoubtedly will happen. But we need to start calling them Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to garner the public’s support. UAS, whether autonomous or remote controlled, would be a boon to the solar energy industry. Just like the real estate and roofing industries, there is a real need for solar energy companies to evaluate homes and businesses from the air, and perform pre-installation inspections and lower marketing costs using this technology. The image below was taken by helicopter, but you can just imagine how much better, closer, and cheaper aerial photography and videography could be with a UAS.

Good points Jason. I agree there is a bad stigma about the word drone. Solar is here to stay, and there are tons of uses for ortho-photography that can be accomplished by Unmanned vehicles such as these without the use of petroleum fuel… or putting human lives in danger. Thanks for reading!
